Jodie from Doodle & Doofus told me about Needle Felting. 

1. What are your favourite needles to use?

I use any needle whichever one i pick up first! I do like the twisted spiral needles, i don’t tend to swap once i get working i like to just get on with it.

2. What is your favourite type of wool to work with?

I mostly use sweetpea dolls super fast felting wool, i find it easy to felt with and it leaves a nice finish without having to add a top coat all the time

3. What is the worst piece of advice you keep hearing for needle felters?

I think the worst advice is to use cheap fillers like toy stuffing or polystyrene inside, i find it’s much harder to felt with these and there are lots of places that sell good quality core wool at a great price.

4. What common mistakes do people make when they start out?

The biggest mistake for beginners to make is to constantly compare with others and give up or say they can’t do it before they've even started to develop their own skills

5. What is the one thing a beginner could learn today that would make a difference to their work?

The one thing a beginner should learn is to practice practice practice and have fun whilst you do it if you do a little bit every day then look back a year later i promise you will see a huge difference in your work

Jenny Barnett told me about Needle Felting. 

1. What are your favourite needles to use?

I use a 36 triangle for forming shapes, then a 38 star for joining parts and fine-tuning.

2. What is your favourite type of wool to work with?

Shetland wool tops, and also Bergschaf wool batts.

3. What is the worst piece of advice you keep hearing for needle felters?

Worst advice maybe 'Only use 'such and such' needles for fibres'. I thinks its good to experiment as much as you can yourself and discover your own preferences.

4. What common mistakes do people make when they start out?

Breaking needles, easily done when you get carried away, bending the needles sideways. Also piercing skin! Just keep your eyes on the wool and hold it on top of the sponge or felting pad.

5. What is the one thing a beginner could learn today that would make a difference to their work?

Slow down, relax and keep going... the more you needle felt, the more your project will firm up, and become more detailed and smooth.

Lisa Moore from FeltForever told me about Needle Felting. 

1. What are your favourite needles to use?

I love the felt alive needles from the USA they are a guilty pleasure. I use a lot of 40 triangle for my workshops and in my kits as I find they are a good beginners needle. Stars and spirals are what I generally use, size depends on project. And of course the felt box.

2. What is your favourite type of wool to work with?

Mmmmm, usually using the wrong wool for 3D Felting like merino. That would have put me off Felting forever!

3. What is the worst piece of  advice you keep hearing for needle felters?

Don’t give up, don’t expect it to look like what you want it to be straightaway, legit morph. A couple of stabs can make all the difference. Put it down if you are struggling then go back to it later, you will see it with fresh eyes. Enjoy it and watch your fingers!

4. What common mistakes do people make when they start out?

Common mistake is to stab too hard and deep. Also use too much wool.

5. What is the one thing a beginner could learn today that would  make a difference to their work?

Patience, practice, use a little wool at a time and build up gradually
