Make Felt Craft For the Winter This Year By Michelle Anne Leah Custodio
Winter is around the corner and for those who wanted to kill time during those cold and chilly months you can use your time productively by making winter felt craft. Felt craft can undergo the wet and dry process. Wet felting is done by layering together different colored wool fibers.
Hooks are placed on the wool fiber and the main purpose is to rub the fiber together so the hooks entwine and interlock, the outcome will be unbroken piece of woolen felt. The fibers interlocked through continuous attrition and churn of the woolen fibers together with the aid of water as a lubricant. That is why it's called wet felting. You can make scarves and other materials that can be sewn in your desired project.
Another way of making felt craft is through dry felting or needle felting. In this process you take pieces of wool and sew it with a felt needle. The felt needle has barbs on it and interlocks the hook in the woolen fiber to create a felt. With this kind of felt you can do any design, shapes and you can make puppets and soft toys.
Felt is a good product that is safe to the children of all ages. There are many types of felt depending on what kind of materials you use. Foss felt is made of 100% polyester and is available in five types:
- Glitter craft felt, is a festal, versatile felt with glitters sewn all over.
- Classic craft felt, is a smooth felt.
- Plush craft felt, it is a long yarn and use for toy making.
- Sticky craft felt, felt with an adhesive back ready for cutting shapes you desire or sold in number and letter shapes.
- Shaggy craft felt, it has the longest yarn and perfect for teddy bears.
There is also the woollen felt that is made of wool and has rayon in it. This wool is smooth to touch and is ideal for making shawl, scarf and bolero.
For economical and multi-purpose fabric you can use wonder felt for making various project. Some of the common uses are backing for fabric art wall hangings, wadding underlay, sound proofing, chair pad backing, protecting furniture when moving, home decorating, wadding in quilts and back in chair pads. It is also makes a perfect box liner to protect your delicate items.
