Felt Wall Art By Julie R Smith

This project is very easy and so much fun. With the amount of color choices there are, you are sure to have a vibrant work of art. I made one of these for my daughters room.
I went with the theme of her room and it turned out so cute. This project can be a simple no sew or a more advance quilted look.

For this project, you will need several felt squares. The color and amount of the squares depend on what you have chosen for your project. You will need felt for the background and for the design pieces. The amount of squares you will need, depends on how large you want the piece.

Cut any desired shapes from all the other felt pieces (butterflies, hearts, flowers, moons, stars what ever theme you are going with). Lay all your background squares out on to a large flat surface and begin placing your felt cut out on top of it. It's best to lay them out first, so you can make sure they are where you want them to be.

For the quilted look, machine sew the felt background pieces together. For the back piece, cut and hem a piece the same size as your felt squares, once they are attached to each other. Machine stitch the felt front to your back piece, leaving one side open, to add batting. Once you have added enough batting to your liking, stitch the last side. With your sewing machine, run a stitch around each square. Your piece should now look quilted. Hand stitch or glue the felt shapes to the felt squares. Stitch two pieces of ribbon to both top corners of your felt quilt. These ties will allow you to hang the finished quilt.

For a no sew art piece, you will need a hot glue gun or a needle and thread. Craft glue will work also but takes more time to dry. You can hand stitch the felt background pieces together or over lap them slightly and run a bead of glue to attach them. Just simply glue or hand stitch the shapes to the background. You could leave it as is and hang it on the wall, and now you have a one of a kind handmade art piece. You could still achieve the quilted look by hot gluing the felt front to a back piece. In order to get the quilted look, you will need to hand stitch between the squares.
